pre-tattoo

If this is your first time getting tattooed, this is very important! Come well rested, not hungover, and with plenty of food prior to the appointment! Make sure you eat a big meal prior to getting tattooed and drink lots of water. Bring any snacks and sugary drinks that you like and wear comfy clothes!

post-tattoo

Alright! the fun stuff…

1. I put a wrap called Recovery Derm Shield on you, this stays on for 3-4 days unless you

  1. don’t like it

  2. experience irritation from the wrap or any rash like reactions

  3. there is a leak in the wrap which exposes the tattoo to the elements.

If you can keep the wrap on for the first 24 hours that is the most important!

2. You will get goopy under the wrap and that is normal!! Any excess blood, plasma, and ink will form under the wrap and your tattoo is 100% okay!

3. take the Derm Shield off in a nice hot shower, the heat might sting a little but will help take off the adhesive.

4. Proceed to wash the tattoo with fragrance free soap (I prefer Dr. Bronners) 2x a day or as necessary. Basically if you’re gross and sweaty, dirty or whatever. Wash your tattoo!

5. Let the tattoo air dry! Bath towels contain a lot of bacteria which is not what you want to rub into a fresh tattoo. You can also pat dry with a paper towel.

6. Use a fragrance free lotion like eucerin, lubiderm, aveeno or more natural products like shea butter.

DO NOT use aquaphor or A&D, these ointments are heavy and sticky. They sit on top of the skin and attract dust, dirt, and dandruff. GROSS!

7. Lastly healing will depend on various factors but assume 2-3 weeks before its safe to go swimming or expose your tattoo to the sun. Remember not to pick at your tattoo, if it itches, smack it!
